Prep Requirements For Empress & Eris
General Observations:
- Provide enough room for the IPS Empress ceramic to allow adequate strength.
- Avoid sharp internal edges and angles.
- Avoid undercuts.
- Maintain shoulder preparation with butt joint margins.

Inlay Restorations: The enamel surfaces created by parallel preparation are generally sufficient for acid etching. With flat cusps, a diverging preparation helps optimize the acid etching of the enamel.
Proximal: Prepare proximal boxes with 60-80o cavosurface angles. Avoid thin walls or flared preparations.

Veneer Restoration: In preparation of veneers, remember veneer thickness of approximately 0.6 mm. Provide a chamfer at the gingival margin. In stress bearing areas reduce tooth surface to provide bulk of ceramic for function.
Onlay Restorations: An onlay preparation is indicated when the preparation margin is less than 0.5 mm away from the cusp tip or when the enamel is severely undermined.
Cusp Reduction: Cusp reduction of 2.0 mm is recommended.

Anterior and Posterior Tooth Restorations (Crowns): In the preparation of anterior and posterior teeth even reduction of the anatomatic form must occur.
Preparation Margins: A shoulder preparation of 1 mm at a 90-110o angle must be executed. Avoid tapered margins, feathered edges or beveled shoulders.
